As a Senior Java Engineer , you will join a highly collaborative engineering team focused on designing and developing scalable, high-performance distributed systems that power enterprise-grade backup, disaster recovery, and cyber resilience solutions. You will work on complex backend services, cloud-native architectures, and integrations across major cloud providers and SaaS ecosystems. Location: Ljubljana, Slovenia What You’ll Do: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and microservices using Java Build highly available and resilient distributed systems powering HYCU’s SaaS multi-cloud backup and recovery platform Collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, QA, DevOps, and Support teams throughout the software development lifecycle Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-tested code following engineering best practices Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical design decisions Optimize system performance, scalability, reliability, and security Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed cloud environments Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automation, observability, and developer tooling Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud computing, SaaS platforms, and data protection What We’re Looking For: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong expertise in Java Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principles Experience building scalable backend systems, APIs, and distributed applications Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform Experience developing cloud-native or SaaS applications Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices architecture, and asynchronous systems Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments Good written and spoken English communication skills It’s Great if You Have: Experience building backup, storage, security, infrastructure, or data protection products Familiarity with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ Experience with observability and monitoring tools Experience using and building AI tools and systems Knowledge of cybersecurity, ransomware protection, or disaster recovery concepts Wh
