The Position: The Sr. Systems Engineer is a senior individual contributor and recognized technical authority responsible for the system architecture, reliability, and long-term operability of a commercial in vitro diagnostic (IVD) software product deployed across diverse customer environments. This role is focused exclusively on customer-facing product systems, not internal enterprise IT, and requires deep expertise in Windows-based platforms, distributed systems, and hybrid infrastructure. At the Senior level, this role is expected to operate with broad autonomy and influence, proactively identifying systemic risks, anticipating environment-specific failure modes, and shaping system design decisions early in the product lifecycle. You will partner closely with software engineering, quality, DevOps, and product teams to ensure the product behaves safely, predictably, and reliably across development, validation, and real-world enterprise deployments. Responsibilities Own and evolve the system-level architecture of a Windows-based IVD software product deployed to customer environments. Act as a system-level technical authority, influencing architecture and design decisions without formal people management. Design, configure, and support product deployments using IIS, SQL Server, WSL, and Docker across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud environments. Anticipate, identify, and mitigate environment-specific risks across Windows and Linux systems, virtual machines, containers, networking, and cloud infrastructure. Support and stabilize a distributed product maintained over multiple years across a large enterprise install base (100+ customer installations). Lead deep root-cause analysis of complex issues spanning application behavior, operating systems, databases, containers, and infrastructure. Define, document, and enforce supported deployment models, environment assumptions, constraints, and known failure modes. Partner early with software engineering to surface non-obvious system dependencies, scalability limits, and operational risks. Contribute to containerized and orchestrated deployment strategies; experience with ECS or Kubernetes is a plus. Influence CI/CD pipelines and release processes to improve reliability, repeatability, and diagnosability in regulated environments. Apply security best practices to product systems, including hardening, access control, patching strategies, and vulnerability management. Drive improvements in observability through logging, monitoring, diagnostics, and operational tooling. Develop and maintain automation scripts to reduce manual configuration, increase consistency, and eliminate classes of environment-related issues. Ensure system designs, configurations, and documentation meet IVD regulatory and quality expectations. Create and maintain system architecture documentation, deployment guides, and operational playbooks. Serve as a senior escalation point and mentor for system-level issues, raising the bar for system engineering practices. Who You Are: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Scie
