The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time—but it’s also the greatest opportunity for innovation, and a challenge we’re proud to take on. At Overstory, we’re harnessing cutting-edge technology to enable a resilient electrical grid that keeps communities thriving as our world changes. The grid is the backbone of life as we know it. It powers hospitals, keeps food fresh, and ensures communities stay connected. But extreme weather, aging infrastructure, and growing wildfire risks are putting this critical system under pressure. All of this combined makes the electric utility industry the greatest opportunity for tackling climate change. One of the leading causes of catastrophic wildfires and power outages? Trees and brush coming into contact with power lines. That’s where we help. At Overstory, we use AI and advanced satellite imagery to pinpoint and prioritize vegetation risks before they materialize. By giving utilities critical analysis on those risks, we’re helping prevent outages, reduce wildfire risks, and accelerate the transition to a safer, more resilient grid. Our team spans the Americas and Europe, and we work with utility partners across the Americas and beyond. We’re outdoor enthusiasts, musicians, artists, athletes, parents, and adventurers. What unites us is a passion for solving complex problems, a commitment to climate action, and the belief that technology should be a force for good. Join us to help us build a more resilient world together. Role & Team We’re looking for a Product Designer to play a leading role in shaping our customer-facing product. This is a role for someone entrepreneurial who wants to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty with designing a product in its early stages. Reporting to the Head of Design, you’ll work closely with the rest of a dedicated team to build Overstory so that it has a giant impact on the world. For this role we are looking to hire in the US or Canada (East Coast preferred), to be in close proximity to our customers. The team you would be working day-to-day with is distributed throughout the US and Europe. Time zone requirement: Eastern North America (NST, AST, EST) What You’ll Do Lead the end-to-end product design process of our customer-facing product including user research, wireframes, prototypes, flows, detailed design specs and QA. Understand engineering and business constraints to create shippable solutions to users’ problems, and continuously validate the solutions with customers. Lay out a design vision for what's possible by quickly iterating, knowing when to pay attention to detail and when to make low-fi sketches and prototypes. Communicate and present your work clearly and frequently to teammates and company leaders. Take full ownership of your work. That also means getting involved on how to communicate it to customers when releases happen. Think both short- and long-term so that you can meet near-term deadlines while iterating toward a future vision. Facilitate alignment and vision exercises (e.g. design sprints, workshops, planning). Occasionally meet in-person with our customers to run workshops, attend field visits and learn about how our customers are leveraging Overstory in their day-to-day operations Occasionally attend industry events to keep an eye on competition, and learn about how our prospects and customers are thinking about leveraging disrupting technology Skills & Experience A strong portfolio featuring examples of interaction design work Experience working at an early-stage startup Demonstrated experience with end-to-end (hybrid UX and UI) product design for enterprise software Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams (product, engineering and design) Skilled in turning the complex into dead simple experiences that non-technical users grasp with ease Exceptional verbal, written and visual communication skills in a fast-paced environment Experience leading design sprints and building consensus around
